Case Study
Building a Responsible Supply Chain for a Telecom Equipment Distributor in Vietnam
Context
An EcoVadis-certified telecom solution provider and distributor sought to develop a resilient and sustainable supply chain in Vietnam to secure its regional procurement operations. The client required industrial partners capable of supporting the full production of telecom enclosures — covering manufacturing, assembly, and strict technical compliance. Beyond standard technical and commercial requirements, the client held firm environmental commitments and expected its supply chain to reflect those values. This created a dual challenge: identifying capable local manufacturers across four distinct product segments while ensuring consistent alignment with the client's CSR framework and quality standards.
Approach
Manuloop conducted targeted sourcing across four segments — injected plastic parts, metal stamping, copper cables, and fiber optic patchcords — with particular focus on identifying partners able to handle the complete production of telecom enclosures, including assembly. Environmental criteria were embedded throughout the selection process from the outset. Research was oriented toward suppliers with proven sensitivity to environmental issues, prioritising ISO 14000 certified manufacturers. Factory visits included structured analysis of internal practices and direct exchanges on each site's environmental commitments. On-site quality controls were conducted with written reports incorporating a clear CSR component, aligned with the client's expectations. In parallel, Manuloop provided field-level operational support in Vietnam: pre-shipment inspections, supplier relationship management, RFI coordination for technical components, and a dedicated audit on patchcord control processes — mapping each quality control step throughout the manufacturing chain and verifying how signal continuity is ensured and traced.
Deliverables
- Supplier portfolio covering four product segments, with documented technical and CSR profiles - On-site factory visits with structured environmental and quality assessments - Pre-shipment inspection reports and quality control documentation - Full audit of patchcord manufacturing controls and optical fiber traceability - RFI management targeting locally established manufacturers with compatible industrial capacities - Ongoing supplier relationship management and purchasing support in Vietnam All outputs were structured to support joint decision-making between engineering, purchasing, and management teams
Outcome
The client secured a structured supplier portfolio in Vietnam aligned with both its technical requirements and its environmental commitments — covering all targeted product families with qualified industrial partners. Purchasing operations were strengthened through direct on-the-ground support, reducing exposure to quality and compliance risks across the supply chain. The integration of CSR criteria from the sourcing stage allowed the client to extend its EcoVadis-aligned approach to its Vietnamese supply base in a concrete and documented manner.
